We need to go over to this fuse box and put your finger on each relay when you hear the clicking to see which ones are clicking. And you have a new battery from bmw.

However, that info helps because if there are relays clicking then most likely we are getting past the security system. It may be possible that the fuse for the gauges has burned out and needs to be replaced.

I then tried to start the car and it started then died. If you get no lights and your battery is working, the ignition switch could be to blame. Try pulling fuse 15 and see if that helps with the dash instruments.
Pulled the thermostat to replace it a week an a half ago including disconnecting the battery terminal on the back of the alternator, and leaving the battery. Working on reverse light wiring for trunk 2. Now the dash lights are not coming on.

Another sign of your “car won’t start, but lights come on” issue is that you have to jiggle the key to start the car. Have a 2003 escalade with 103,000. Tried unhooking the battery + cable for about 5min with no luck.
And you don't state what model 5 series that you have. If your dash lights and gauges are not functioning then the first thing i would do is check the vehicle’s fuses. Sweared and cursed a little.
The only thing that works are the hazard light arrows, p switch button for the corner lights, and brake lights. Any ideas before it gets the rollback? You are going to have to tighten the terminals the relay plugs into or take the panel apart to look for burned or corroded wires.
Call mb roadside assist (i think you may still have access, they just changed the rules) and they'll come out and try to jump it properly. Even if it is a push button we still need to see the theft light turn off when cranking. If so then you most likely have a dry point near to a voltage regular on the dash pcb.
